Four seniors provide some experience with third-baseman Alexis Banning, Emily West, Arisa Kunkler and outfielder Maranda McDade.
“We will look to them for leadership and to help our younger players understand the rules of the game and how to communicate with each other on the field,” Killingbeck said. “Our new players have good athleticism (mostly basketball). They can all hit the ball, but getting outs may be the biggest challenge.”
Big bats are to be wielded by Banning, McDade, junior third baseman Azhure Shotwell, senior left fielder Jayah Taylor and sophomore infielder Eden Ortiz. Junior second baseman Janet Cruz and sophomore shortstop Z’lisia Hankston add credibility to the infield. Juniors Bawi Sung and Alicia Barnett complete the outfield.
Killingbeck and Sam said they are impressed with the experience of junior pitcher Haley Long, who has played organized softball for eight years, with Kunkler as the closer.
“It may take us a few games to see our potential,” Killlingbeck said. “I believe we will surprise some teams.”
