The Flashes’ top returnees are Rachel Loobie (middle), 5-9 junior Mya Perry (left), who played as a freshman, and 6-1 senior Amelia Magyar.
PictureNew Franklin Central coach Vince Cerbone, who was at Martinsville for 13 years, leads the Flashes during a recent practice. Cerbone won 233 games at the Artesians’ helm, three sectional titles and three Mid-State Conference championships. He was an assistant coach on the 2017 Indiana All-Star team.
FRANKLIN CENTRAL (4A, 7-17) – Flashes adapting quickly to new coach Vince Cerbone (17 years, 223-148) … seek to reverse three straight losing seasons … graduated four seniors who combined for 18.3 points and 16.5 rebounds … two expected returnees transferred elsewhere … Cerbone seeks mental, emotional and physical toughness … Flashes have star in junior Rachel Loobie, 15.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists … can build around returning trio: 6-1 seniors Amelia Magyar and Erica Crawford and 5-10 junior Madison Weaver … 5-9 junior Mya Perry returns to the program … savvy 5-8 freshman Rayah Kincer playmaker … consistent shooting a must … depth must come from inexperienced players … look for rude introduction to Hoosier Crossroads Conference … open season Friday at Whiteland.

Coach’s comments: “I feel revived with a new group and a new challenge. It will take time to complete the overhaul. I’m trying to do some different things because we have some size and some athletic kids. We have a lot of good basketball players who have accepted the change. Assistant coaches Nikki Cerbone and Evan Arnold, who were here, have made that possible. Rachel is a very refined basketball player, a core junior all-star; she has pressure to lead us. We have a core of kids who want to improve. We’re going to experience a tough conference with the hope that we’ll be better for it; our goal is to grow and win the sectional.”
