Martinsville sectional is up for grabs

Freshmen Rachel Loobie has made an immediate impact for Franklin Central and is quickly making a name for herself. She scored 26 of the team’s 49 points in a win over Terre Haute North and pulled down 15 rebounds.

Greenwood (4-18)
– Snapped 13-game losing skid Friday against Decatur Central 54-48 … held Herron to only three points in classic mismatch Nov. 11 … junior Leah Moore recovered from knee surgery, leads with 11.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game … only Woodman averaging double figures … sophomores Alex Kincaid, 8.4 points and 4.4 rebounds, and Bailee Taft, team-high 38 assists … plagued by poor shooting, 31 percent all season … average only 40 points per game … 1-5 against Martinsville sectional opponents, lone win against New Palestine Nov. 10; rematch in sectional opener Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Center  Grove (14-7) – Win against Indian Creek in Johnson County tourney was coach Shawn Sanders’ 100th … ninth toughest schedule in state … 3-5 since upsetting then-No. 4 Pike Dec. 17 … 5-9 junior Cassidy Hardin leads with 13.3 points and 4.7 rebounds … backed by seniors 5-8 Maddie Bitterling, 8.3 ppg, and 5-4 Allison Utterback, 7.8 ppg … 5-6 sophomore Ella Thompson hitting 56 percent of 3s (19-of-34) … 4-0 against sectional opponents, includes one-point win against Martinsville … dropped last four games, two against 4A-ranked teams … played at Greenwood Tuesday, travel to No. 1 Lawrence North Jan. 27 … 4-0 against sectional opponents, including one-point win against sectional host Martinsville … rematch against Artesians comes Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m., in sectional.   

Franklin Central (8-10) – Started season with 5-2 record … two seniors pace Flashes, 5-4 Keyla Hines, 13. 1 points per game, and  5-6 Lindsey Owens, 31 assists … impact newcomer in 6-1 frosh Rachel Loobie, leads with 13.2 ppg and 8.2 rebounds … seventh toughest slate in Indiana … defeated Terre Haute South 49-35 Saturday … close season at home Thursday against Westfield … 3-2 against teams in Martinsville sectional, includes OT loss to the Artesians … coach Brian Hacker and Flashes must wait to play in sectional Feb. 3, 6 p.m., against New Palestine-Greenwood winner.
