The men’s basketball team at Marian University has finished its season with 14-16 record, going 5-13 in the Crossroads League.

The lady Knights (30-3, 17-1) are still playing, having won their conference tournament Monday by defeating St. Francis 59-57. With the win, Marian earned an automatic bid to the NAIA national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa, which begins March 8. The Knights will find out their opponent today.

Marian made it to the title game by defeating Goshen 82-54 in the quarterfinals behind Jessica Almeida’s 19 points. Roncalli graduate Kelli Kirkhoff added 15 points and four steals, and Jenna Sullivan had a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Knights defeated Grace 79-50 Friday in the semifinals and were led by Anastacia Kirby with a game-high 19 points. Kirkhoff and Almeida chipped in 18 and 14 points, respectively.

Over at the University of Indianapolis, the lady Greyhounds (16-13, 10-9 Great Lakes Valley Conference) closed out their regular season with a 51-49 loss to St. Joseph’s, which is closing indefinitely in May. Martha Burse led UIndy with 25 points.

The team opened its league tournament with 66-48 win over Liberty (Mo.) Sunday and will travel to Evansville on Friday to meet Southern Indiana. Burse scored a game-high 29 points; Sydney Brackemyer added 15 and Nicole Anderson 11.

The men also lost to St. Joseph’s, 90-86, in their regular-season finale. Freshman Tate Hall led the Greyhounds with 24 points, and Roncalli grad Jimmy King recorded his first double-double with 14 points and 10 assists.

The ’Hounds (16-11, 12-6) won their first game in the conference tournament by defeating Missouri-St. Louis 76-63 at home Sunday. Next up is a game against Wisconsin-Parkside in Evansville on Thursday.
