Manual expects several young players to continue the Redskins’ winning ways. The players are junior Robert Rosales, freshman Christian Phillips, sophomore AJ Breeding and freshman Braden Beers.
Manual (12-5) – Chasing third straight winning season under coach Matt Thompson … hit .326 and stole 133 bases last season … graduated seven players … seniors back for third season are: 2017 Most Valuable Player Colin McGehey (.500) is behind plate but can play infield and pitch; shortstop/pitcher Dominique Werner (.385); and Will Clark in right field … help comes from junior outfielder Ervin Crabtree, improved hitter, thanks to wearing glasses, and A.J. Breeding at first … junior D’Angelo Dean, a speedster/utility player … versatile leadoff hitter Christian Phillips, center fielder/power-hitter Braden Beers and shortstop Chris Deal are promising freshmen … quick on the base paths again … Beech Grove visits today.

Coach’s comments: “Our past two seasons are a testament to the kids and how hard they work. We have some athletes from other sports that we are trying to turn into baseball players. Having two winning seasons in a row excites the rest of the students in the building. We are 12-0 in last two years in the IPSAC (Indianapolis Public Schools Athletic Conference) and with a lot of three-year veterans, we’re looking to continuing that streak. Defensively we are as solid as we have looked in the last two years because we return so many players at spots. Hitting-wise, we don’t have that one big player who you know will have a big game every night. On the other side, we have guys who make us more balanced through the lineup. We have several pitchers who can throw strikes. We play some tough opponents right away.”
