The Saints have solid experience in receiver Matthew Joseph, lineman Franklin McFadden, quarterback-safety Jake Reid, third-year starting center Kenley Akers, safety Drew Settlemyre and linebacker Austin Naderi.
PictureThird-year quarterback Jake Reid hit pay dirt midway last season and helped in guiding Saints to sectional and regional championships.
LUTHERAN (10-4) – Entering 10th full season … only one win from reaching state finals last year … nine-year record 54-44 with only three losing seasons … coach Dave Pasch is 49-34 in seven campaigns … offense jelled late for six-game winning streak by scoring 268 points … Saints must make up for losing 16 seniors, including one of state’s biggest lines … quarterback Jake Reid blossomed into a top 1A passer at midseason … only two O-line starters return, Kenley Akers at center and Dionte McFadden (260 pounds) at tackle … offense also features running back Andre Jones, who gained more than 1,000 yards as a freshman, and senior receivers Matt Joseph and Drew Settlemyre … O-line led by junior tackles Franklin McFadden (290 pounds) and John Pasch …  defense may take time to jell … linebacker Bailly Barham, Josh Secrest and McFadden anchor the defense … home Friday at 7 p.m. against Beech Grove.

Pasch’s comments: “What we’ve tried to do is establish ourselves as a program. Even with our success last year, we feel there is room for improvement. We hope to keep the excitement from last year moving. We feel like we have a number of players up from JV who can really help us. Our keys don’t change; it’s all about improvement. We have to improve week by week. From our perspective it’s all about building a good football team that can be competitive in Game 10 (opening round of sectionals) and beyond."
