Coach’s comments: “Last year we had only one player back with varsity experience. This year we have three returning starters and more experience. They will play key roles. We are in a better position entering the season. We are sound and will be more competitive. Our height will give us flexibility against big teams, but we can go small too. It takes a while to get started because we will bring in some football players. We are looking for a good season, but we play in the hardest 1A sectional in the state. We have upgraded our schedule and expect to see all styles of play.”
LUTHERAN (4-18) – Second year under longtime baseball coach Dick Alter … went through 11-game losing skid … averaged only 49.5 points … graduated four players … second year for youth movement … returns with starters in 6-3 seniors Riley Wilson, Clayton Pittman and Matthew Alter at point … joined by classmates 6-2 Mark Caster, a football lineman, 5-10 Grant Bell, and 6-4 Connor Ohl … seniors Scott Engler and 6-5 Andrew Hoover did not play last year … star running back junior Marcus McFadden has quickness with classmate Joe Faubion and versatility with Layton Dickey … more experienced and taller … Caster and Hoover can rebound and defend near rim … look for defensive improvement … first home game Dec. 8 against rival Greenwood Christian.
