Roncalli senior running back Luke Hansen is the Royals’ all-time career rushing yards leader. Hansen carried the ball 41 times for 204 yards and three touchdowns as the Royals fell to East Central in a 4A semistate championship thriller. He finishes his high school football career with a record 4,631 yards. The previous mark of 4,275 was set by Joe Gillum (Class of 1986) from 1983 through 1985. Hansen surpassed Gillum Nov. 11 in the regional championship game against New Palestine by rushing for 195 yards. For the season, Hansen finishes with 3,080 yards. He is among the top two rushing leaders in the state and among the top six nationally. Hansen was the workhorse running back for the Royals in coach Eric Quintana’s first year at the helm with a ground-oriented offense. Quintana praised Hansen for his accomplishment but, more importantly, for being a “great teammate and leader.”
