The top 64 high school girls basketball players in Indiana were showcased Sunday at “Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s” top 60 team scrimmages.

The event, held at Heritage Christian School, annually serves as a vital tool in the selection of the Indiana All-Stars team and a final opportunity for the girls to market their skills for potential scholarships. The players included Beech Grove’s Cameron Cardenas and Perry Meridian’s Sadie Hill.

For the first hour, participants was given the opportunity to showcase their skillsets for the roughly 200 coaches and fans in attendance. The second half of the workout featured a four-team, round-robin scrimmage.

Beech Grove coach Kristin Raker was invited to lead one of the squads and was once again paired with her star player, Cardenas.

“It’s awesome,” Raker said. “I love to see her compete with this competition and know that she can compete with this competition. This type of exposure for her is great because she is doing great today!”

“It’s just really humbling to even be in the top 60 workout, and it’s even better that my coach is literally my coach here too!” shared Marian-bound Cardenas, whose excitement was echoed by Hill.

“It’s a great opportunity, and I’m glad to be here,” Hill said. “I am glad to show my skills to the coaches, and possibly make the Indiana All-Star team, as that’s my goal at this point.”

Both players were impressive, displaying their abilities to run the point while creating their own scoring opportunities. They will now wait for the call hopefully telling them that they will be representing Indiana against Kentucky in the near future.
