In a Southside girls basketball duel, Greenwood pulled away from visiting Perry Meridian 60-53 Nov. 29 as the Woodmen won their sixth game in nine outings. Senior Leah Moore led Greenwood with 23 points, capped by 12 points in the fourth quarter.
The Woodmen trailed 40-34 at the end of the third period but outscored the Falcons 26-13 in the final eight minutes. Sadie Hill and Caitie Baird each scored 16 points for the Falcons (1-6).
“We finally started moving the ball, and that made the difference,” first-year Woodman coach Bill Torgerson said. “We had several players who had good stretches in the third and fourth quarters.”
Greenwood fell to No. 20 Martinsville 69-41 as the Woodmen lost their second Mid-State Conference game.
Perry Meridian recovered and won its second game of the season against visiting Franklin Central 56-51. Hill led the Falcons with 23 points with junior Ariana Booker adding 12 points.
Undefeated Beech Grove (7-0) edged host Franklin as Katie Giller led the Hornets with 25 points. The Hornets.
Southport took its second win in its past three outings at Bloomington North, 53-33.
Center Grove, 8-1 and No. 15 in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association poll, won for the sixth straight time by dominating Lawrence Central 56-35 behind Cassidy Hardin 17 points, Ella Thompson 14 points, and Claire Rake 10 points.
