Beech Grove captured its holiday tourney Friday by dominating New Palestine 76-43 in the opener and Tri-West 78-62 for the title.
The Hornets broke loose with a 28-11 fourth-quarter surge to come from behind and defeat Tri-West. Five Hornets, paced by senior guard Chase Andries’ 23 points, led Beech Grove. Dylan Allen dominated the inside with 17 points after scoring a game-high 18 against New Palestine.
In holiday tourneys, Franklin Central went 3-1 for fifth place at Richmond, and Lutheran was 2-1 for fifth place at Edinburgh.
Manual (7-1) defeated Fort Wayne Luers 79-66 for its sixth straight win in the nightcap of an eight-game hoops extravaganza Dec. 23 on the Redskins’ court.
Upcoming games, 7:30 p.m.: Friday – Southport at Franklin Central, Roncalli at Beech Grove, Manual at Washington, Trinity Lutheran at Lutheran; Saturday – Center Grove at Franklin Central, Edinburgh at Lutheran.
The Marion County tourney begins Tuesday, Jan. 10, at various sites, all games at 7 p.m., with Southport (1-7) at No. 1 North Central (8-0), Franklin Central (5-2) at Beech Grove (6-3), Roncalli (7-2) at Perry Meridian (4-5) and Pike (7-3) at Lutheran (4-2). Feb. 11, 7 p.m., quarterfinals at four different sites. Feb. 13 semifinals at Southport, 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Feb. 14 championship at Southport, 7 p.m.
