The Hornets’ previous high, according to football historian Joe Pich, was 63 points against Mooresville in the 1972 regular-season finale at The Pit, now the home of Beech Grove’s seventh- and eighth-grade teams.
Beech Grove led 36-21 at halftime and then held the Saints’ balanced offense scoreless in the second half. The Hornets’ offense is flying high for a second straight season; last year they scored 46 points or more while winning six games.
Junior quarterback Chase Andries completed 12-of-18 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Walter Ballinger scored on runs of 16 and 28 yards, and Dallas Culpepper scored on a 60-yard pass play. Montrez Hearon and Aaron Yanez combined for an 85-yard TD pass play.
Isaiah Hulse returned an intercepted pass for a 50-yard TD and had two sacks and recovered two fumbles. Junior Nate Sanchez led the defense with 10 tackles.
