Lady Trojans win golf invitational
Center Grove captured the Franklin Central Invitational Saturday at Smock Golf Course by shooting a 330. Runner-up Westfield trailed by seven strokes. CG’s team members are Shelby Schier, Hannah Wilson, Sydney Abbott, Raquel Helton and Marissa Anderson.
Roncalli, led by Kristin Foresman’s 80, finished ninth in the 15-team field.
Center Grove’s boys wins tennis tournament
Center Grove’s boys tennis team won its fifth straight Johnson County tournament on Saturday.
The No. 6 Trojans (7-2) swept Franklin 5-0 to hand the Grizzly Cubs their first loss of the season. The Trojans’ champions were: singles – No. 1, Conner Anderson; No. 2, Cam Schoolcraft; No. 3, Peter Golder; doubles – No. 1, Tye Thixton and Drew Waltermann; No. 2, Casey Fellers and Alex Sorley.
Each singles champion swept their matches 2-0.
Greenwood’s boys cross-country runners first
Greenwood’s boys cross-county team won the 5K Whiteland Invitational on Saturday as five runners placed among the top 20. Hunter Smith led the team with a runner-up finish.
The Woodmen dominated the meet. Beech Grove, led by Vilis Vuskalns in 10th place, was fourth among 12 teams.
Greenwood’s Allie Dalton and Krista Robinson finished first and second, respectively, in the girls meet. Dalton covered the distance in 18 minutes, 30 seconds as the Woodmen finished second to Shelbyville in team points, 35-47. Teammate Olivia Weston was ninth. Beech Grove was eighth.
Roncalli was sixth in the boys Indiana Catholic Championships at Guerin Catholic, and the girls were seventh in the 12-team meet Saturday.
