Greenwood is led by seniors Rachel Derf, Maggie Smith and Leah Moore. Moore missed most of her sophomore season but led the Woodmen last season with 11 points per game and 5.4 rebounds.
PictureBill Torgerson takes over for Greenwood. He’s returning to Hoosierland for the first time since being an assistant boys coach at Fort Wayne Carroll.
GREENWOOD (4-19) – Author-teacher-coach Bill Torgerson takes reigns … graduated four seniors who accounted for 25 percent of offense … last year’s team averaged woeful 39.7 points per game, hitting only 33 percent of field goals, 55 percent of free throws … group shows promise after rugged four-win season … built around 5-10 senior  Leah Moore, 11.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and junior guards, versatile Alex Kincaid, 8.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and fitness advocate Bailee Taft, 4.9 points … Kincaid can be a standout … Moore, explosive on offense and defense,  works in tandem with 6-0 senior Maggie Smith with the ball … returnees include Rachel Derf, Ashley Buster, Dominique Proctor and Kristin Whobrey.

Coach’s comments: “I was able to get to know the girls during call-outs and summer ball. Many players seem to be interchangeable. We have several good ball handlers. We can move the ball quickly and drive it. We have improved our scoring ability from last year.

“We need to be quick and aggressive on defense and stay out of foul trouble. We want to pressure the other team. We don’t want to allow other teams force us to change what we want to do.”
