Coach’s comments: “This is a great fit. We have a lot of girls who understand the game and can play. We have a good mix of young and veteran girls. We have defensive tenacity. We will have to play up-tempo, and we have a lot of players who can play multiple positions. We want each player to be a threat to score. They seem to enjoy playing that style. We want to get after people. These kids like being the underdog, and I think they can play with anyone in the conference (Mid-State). I think this year will really be fun.”
GREENWOOD (4A, 11-13) – Justin Bennett becomes third coach in four years … only two winning seasons since 2012 …wants up-tempo play … graduation losses included All-Johnson County Leah Moore (14.9 points, 6.3 rebounds) … savvy backcourt returnees are underrated senior Bailee Taft (9.1 points), tenacious defender/ sophomore Brooklyn Stubblefield (8.2 points, 2.1 rebounds) and junior shooter Ashley Buster … senior wing Kristen Whobrey and 5-10 sophomore forward Jenna Snyder add spark … newcomers 5-6 Kyra Adkins and 6-0 Kiley Hankenhoff must develop early … 5-5 senior Sarah DeCastro back after year’s absence … fast-paced offense and changing defenses … rebounding a big question … home games Friday against Herron and Saturday against Seymour.
