Greenwood has speed to burn with an up-tempo pace from seniors Cassidy Branagan, Maddy Renfro, Victoria Byrne, Megan Overton, Brooke Uebersetzig, Holly Hoopingarner and Jae Taft.
PictureGreenwood’s new coach Lee Taft has Woodmen running and improving with speed conditioning. He also has an athletics consulting business in Greenwood.
GREENWOOD (11-13) – Coach Lee Taft succeeds 11-year coach Debbie Guckenberger (Brownsburg) … Taft previously coached at Union (Modoc) … look for up-tempo game … 5-4 senior Holly Hoopingarner (IUPUI signee) returns with two classmates, 5-3 Maddy Renfro (5.4 ppg) and 5-9 Megan Overton (3.7 ppg, 5.8 rebounds) …  Hoopingarner had 21.0 ppg, 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists last year … transfer Jae Taft can move to point guard to free up Hoopingarner to be a shooting guard … senior Cassidy Branagan also can shoot the 3 … seniors Brooke Uebersetzig and Victoria Byrne can help rebound … 5-9 freshman Alex Kincaid shows promise … sophomore Leah Moore’s torn ACL in first game this season was big setback … Woodmen will have to play “big” to get rebounds … bought into Taft’s speed conditioning for pressing defense and fast-break offense … won first two games against Bloomington North and New Palestine.

Coach’s comments: “This is definitely Holly Hoopingarner’s team. She’s very strong, and we can move her around this season. She controls the ball and the game. We are guard heavy, but it is really nice to have so many leaders at guard. We have a lot of pieces. We are very, very small, starting four girls 5-4 and under. The girls basketball IQ is very high. I’m doing more with this group at this point than I have with any team. This is a great group of girls who love playing hard for each other.”
