Greenwood Christian Academy has firepower with juniors in Elliott Murray, sharpshooter Quentin Steele and returning lead scorer Payton Modlin.
PictureFormer Center Grove standout Jonny Marlin returns to the Southside as the new basketball coach at Greenwood Christian Academy.
GREENWOOD CHRISTIAN (1A, 7-17) – Jonny Marlin’s first season at helm …takes over after Jamie Satre (11 years, 102-137) built up program … left good talent behind … high expectations for experienced and junior-laden team … backcourt trio Payton Modlin (15.7 points, 3.9 rebounds), Quentin Steele (4.4 points, 3.5 rebounds) and junior Cooper Britt (7.1 points, 6.7 rebounds) are stronger … Cayden Bauscheck (4.2 points) lone senior returnee … juniors George Apgar and Elliott Murray also return … transfer Keegan Owen (Roncalli) bolsters backcourt … more transfers: 6-3 senior guard Chaz McCorkle (Franklin); junior Trey Spears (Martinsville); and 6-3 soph Andrew Anderson (Center Grove) … has playmakers and shooters … Lutheran visits for showdown Dec. 9.

Coach’s comments: “Our three guys who are back led us in every start last year. We have transfers and some of them will play huge roles. These kids are hungry. They are far more experienced and stronger. We have some kids who can get out and run. Our guards can play fun-style basketball by pressuring the ball, creating a lot of havoc on defense and letting our defense lead our offense. And we have guys who can shoot it.

“I want to put five playmakers on the court so teams have a hard time matching up. All spots are interchangeable, and that’s how we have approached practice. I believe we can space the floor on offense. We want lots of energy on the court because that is contagious. These kids are learning as fast as I can. I’m looking forward to seeing what these guys can do.”
