GREENWOOD CHRISTIAN (13-11) – Coach Alan Weems (56-62) in sixth year … Cougars have experience, quickness and athleticism … four seniors: 5-8 center Sarah Mangan, 11.4 points, 10.1 rebounds; 5-6 Grace Peters, 9.5 points, 5.5 rebounds; and 5-6 Grace Apgar, 5.2 points, 4.2 rebounds; and Central Christian transfer Abi Hickman … four-year starters Peters and Apgar will depart with career record for wins (42 after three years) … 5-9 soph Alexis Mead starts as point guard …5-8 frosh Abby Muck and 5-9 forward Izzy Reed (broken hand) could earn starting roles … 5-11 soph Morgan Haynes backs up Mangan.

Coach’s comments: “We had a 13-win season with a young team but we’re at the point where a winning season isn’t good enough. We didn’t necessarily accomplish what we wanted to last year. This is the most talented team we’ve ever had; I expect big things from them. We have four seniors and that will make a big difference.

“We have a good ball-handling team that can move the ball well and has lots of basketball knowledge. We will compete hard and be in position to win games that people don’t expect us to win. We now play in the county (tourney), but it has been a while to get to the point where the county felt we belonged. We are in a stronger sectional with Lutheran and Bethesda and are going to put ourselves in position to be there at the end.”
