Three Southside cross-country teams won sectional championships Saturday to qualify for regional action.
Franklin Central’s girls and boys squads and Center Grove’s girls captured team championships while Greenwood Christian Academy’s Allie Dalton won the girls race and Center Grove freshman John Hodges won the boys race at Franklin.

Roncalli’s and Southport’s boys and girls teams plus boys teams from Greenwood, Center Grove and Perry Meridian also qualified for regional competition.

Franklin Central’s No. 2 girls with two seniors and three freshmen were among the top eight finishers at New Palestine.

Although Beech Grove’s boys and Perry Meridian’s girls teams did not finish among the top five in points, five runners from those schools will compete in regionals.

Teams finishing among the top five in points and the top 10 runners from non-advancing teams qualified for regionals.

Qualifiers from the New Palestine and Franklin sectionals will run Saturday at Rushville and Shelbyville, respectively. The top five teams and top 10 runners from non-advancing teams qualify for semistate Oct. 24.
