Six Southside boys basketball teams enter the 108th annual state tournament Tuesday with winning records.
Four of those teams earned conference championships: Roncalli (16-6), won the Circle City title; Beech Grove (15-4), a share of the Indiana Crossroads crown; Greenwood (14-6), a share of the Mid-State with Decatur Central and Franklin; and Manual (14-5), outright possession of the Indianapolis title.
Center Grove (14-5) and Lutheran (3-17) are defending sectional champions. Greenwood Christian is 13-8.
Southside teams also have some of the state’s most intriguing players: Center Grove’s 6-9 junior Trayce Jackson-Davis, who can take over a game; 6-8 scoring and rebounding threat Jalen Johnson of Manual; Greenwood’s 6-3 scoring threat Eric Moenkhaus; Beech Grove’s one-two punch of Kenny Washington and Jayln Curry; Greenwood Christian’s Kegan Owen; reliable Kellen Schreiber and Jack Hegwood of Roncalli; and improving Chaz Hinds of Southport.
