Perry Meridian has several returning players, including seniors Nate Mertz, Paul Jones, Semaj Danley II, Mitchell Schubert and Dylan Parrish. The Falcons are out to improve on last year’s four wins.
PERRY MERIDIAN (4-18) – Coach James will try to turnaround three straight losing seasons and six without a sectional win … disciplined approach to game … inherits 10 returnees … key Falcons: seniors 6-4 Semaj Danley II (11.9 points, 4.0 rebounds) and 6-0 Paul Jones (7.7 rebounds) and sophomores 5-9 Reggie McDonald (4.5 points, 2.4 assists) and 6-3 Jayden Taylor (11.0 points, 3.5 rebounds) … seniors 6-0 Mitchell Schubert and 5-9 Nate Mertz plus sophomores 6-4 Noah Pendleton, 6-0 Chris McDonald and 5-10 Mason Corsaro also compete for spots … favors man-to-man defense over zone … working on basics and tough man-to-man defense … look for slow progress … jump from Conference Indiana to Mid-State … Saturday at Roncalli, Nov. 30 at Mooresville and then home Dec. 1 against Greenfield.

Coach’s comments: “I’m pleased with how hard they have worked in the weight room. We want to be competitive. Difference between winning and losing is doing what’s necessary on defense. Once they
understand the offense, they’ll be fine. We want to control our effort and do the best we can when we play. They aren’t going to make mis-takes on purpose. I’m more interested in playing consistently and trying to improve so that we are playing our best basketball going into the sectional. I want a disciplined team, get the shots we want, rebound and not turn the ball over. Usually the team that outrebounds the other team, makes less turnovers and shoots more free throws wins – that’s what we will try to do. I’m sure we’re not going to be picked to win very many games.”
