CG opens with win at Franklin Central; DC claims Ritter tourney

With six seniors, Center Grove opened the new girls basketball season with a close encounter against host Franklin Central.

This is the fourth straight season the Trojans and Flashes have opened against each other and each game has been decided by eight points or less.

Center Grove, the only team ranked among the top 20 in the pre-season coaches poll, edged FC, 46-40 on Nov. 1. Junior guard Audrey Annee paved the way with 14 points, including eight points in the decisive fourth quarter. The Flashes led 32-31 after three quarters, but two 3-pointers in the first minute provided CG with a five-point cushion down the stretch.

Senior Ella Hobson put in 10 points with Brooklyn Booker scoring nine and Savanna Bischoff eight for the Trojans.

FC’s Madison Monday led with 12 points on four 3-pointers and Carys Wilson scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Saturday, the Trojans traveled to Fishers where the hosts won 47-42. Annee scored 15 points and 6-3 junior Rachel Wirts had eight rebounds.


Roncalli also opened its season with a 62-53 win Saturday at Triton Central. Taylor Turk scored 19 points with help from Sydney Horton, 16 points and four assists, and Claire Lindsey, 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals.

Decatur Central captured the four-team Ritter Shootout by defeating Connersville in the opener, 70-49 and then downing Southport, 59-38. The Cardinals reached the finale by defeating host Ritter, 57-31. Cece Mitchell led with 16 points as Kassie McMasters added 15 points and Lela Scott 11 points.

Beech Grove dominated Edinburgh, 47-25 on opening night. 

Greenwood came through in the fourth quarter with a37-34 triumph over visiting Greenfield in the Woodman opener Thursday. The Woodmen jumped to a 22-6 lead but had to hang on for the win. Ella Stivers hit two key baskets and Lilly Howe added a free throw in the final 90 seconds.

Greenwood fell Saturday on the road at Bloomington South, 47-34.

Upcoming games find Decatur Central at Perry Meridian and Franklin Central at Whiteland Thursday and Lutheran at Beech Grove Tuesday.
