Center Grove’s boys won five events in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference championships and came close to upending favored Carmel 123-113.
The Trojans took five firsts, were runners-up in four events, including two relays, and finished third in one event.
Senior Derek Grimmer won the 100 (10.90) and 200 (22.05) dashes. Senior Grant Stapleton captured the 800 in 1:57.99; Nathan Fill was fifth (1:59.01). Senior Zach Hart (49.52) and Jackson Hohlt (49.99) were first and second, respectively, in the 400 dash. Junior Cameron Tidd won the discus with a throw of 171-08.
The Trojans came within less than a second of finishing ahead of Ben Davis in the 4-by-100 and champion Carmel in the 4-by-400 relay. CG’s runners in the 400 relay were Grant Mason, Hohlt, Titus McCoy, Zak Smith and in 3,200 relay were Conner Steeb, Smith, Hohlt and Trevor Hohlt.
Freshman Taylor Pennington captured the high jump (5-6) in the girls meet.
CG was second to Warren Central, 120-106, in the girls meet.
