Center Grove’s girls golf team ended Roncalli’s eight-year sectional championship reign Saturday at The Legends Golf Course in Franklin.
The Trojans fired a 334 to the Rebels’ 349 at the Southport Sectional, where Perry Meridian placed third with a 387. All three teams advance to Saturday’s 8 a.m. Roncalli Regional at Smock Golf Course.
Roncalli’s Kristen Foresman shot a 4-over-par 76 to pick up medalist honors. She had an impressive even-par 36 on the front nine as she birdied the first, fifth, sixth and ninth holes. She had six pars on the back nine.
CG’s Hanna Wilson was Foresman’s closest challenger with an 81, which included 11 pars. Shelly Schier shot an 84 for the Trojans, and Sydney Abbott and Marissa Anderson fired 87s.
Roncalli’s other scores: Annie Eisenbarth 83, Elaina Smith 95, Emily Eisenbarth 95 and Corina Defenderfer 100.
Perry Meridian’s scores: Erika Shellenberger 82, Katie Vaux 86, Taylor Matthews 107, Ashlan Hellerbrand 112 and Alex Quinlan 115.
Greenwood qualified for regional action by placing second at the Mount Vernon Sectional at the par-72 Old Oaklandon Golf Course.
Shelby Johnson led the Woodmen with an 84, followed by teammates Hannah Cross 85, Melanie Hughes 89, Katie Lindstrom 90 and Julianna Lamey 96. The Woodmen finished seven strokes behind sectional champion New Palestine but advance to the New Castle Regional at Westwood Golf Course at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Southport, fifth at The Legends with a 441, was led by Htay Ni Sui’s 98; Franklin Central (446) was sixth, led by Grace Phillippe’s 96; and Beech Grove (457) was seventh and paced by Ashleigh David’s 105. Sui and Phillippe qualified for the Roncalli Regional.
