Southport senior quarterback Luke Johnston has been named Marion County Player of the Year by the county’s football coaches.
Johnston holds all career passing records at Southport, where he helped guide the Cardinals to a 28-5 record over three years and two sectional championships. The 6-5 senior threw 94 touchdown passes and 8,683 yards during his career.
He and Beech Grove junior quarterback Chase Andries were named to the first team.
Andries is rewriting the Hornets’ record book and has completed 405-of-656 passes (61.7 percent) for 6,017 yards and 63 touchdowns. He threw for 2,906 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2014.
The quarterbacks are among 11 players from Southside teams on the All-County first team; there are 20 honorable mention players.

Roncalli – Justin Saylor, defensive back; honorable mention: Kyle Petroff, Louie Hibner, Will Harris, Caleb Bowling, Trevor Jacob, Nate Eble, Jake Franklin, Robbie Strader, Nate Fries.
