Beech Grove’s boys swimming and diving team captured its fifth consecutive Indiana Crossroads Conference championship Saturday.
The Hornets, hosting the event and coached by veteran Oskar Vuskalns, swept all relays and won five individual events.

Sam Ulery took the 100-yard freestyle (50.15 seconds) and 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 52.48 seconds) and was on the winning 200 freestyle (1:41.61) and 400 freestyle (3:40.02) relays.
Vilis Vuskalns was first in the 200 individual medley (2:13.00) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.71). Chandler Ferrer won the 50 freestyle in 24.63 seconds in a one, two, three finish with Matt Dowell (24.90) and Michael Trebing (25.23).

Vuskalns, Dowell, Ferrer and Caleb Bowser won the 200 medley relay (1:54.47); Ulery, Trebing, Luca Stropiana and Brent Strahla took first-place honors in the 200 freestyle relay, and Ulery, Dowell, Vuskalns and Jack Ulery won the 400 freestyle relay.
The Hornets had runner-up finishes by Dowell in 50 freestyle and 200 individual medley, Avery Solomon diving, Bowser in 100 backstroke and Jack Ulery in 500 freestyle.

Beech Grove wound up with 198 points, followed by Ritter 138, Speedway 56, Park Tudor 28 and Scecina 13.
In the girls conference meet, Beech Grove’s Brianna Markland won the 100 breaststroke in a career-best 1:21.58. Abby Strahla was second in the 200 individual medley.

Markland was on the runner-up 200 freestyle relay with Ashleigh Davids, Dakota Hopkins and Caitlin Bowser and 400 freestyle relay with Davids, Hopkins and Strahla, who was second in the 200 individual medley.
The Hornets were third with 99 points behind champion Park Tudor’s 138 and runner-up Ritter with 124.

Double for Dalton
Greenwood’s Lauren Dalton was a double winner for Greenwood in the Mid-State Conference championships at Franklin. She won the 200 individual medley in 2:14.38 and the 100 backstroke in 1:02.24 and was dominating in both events, winning each by more than 3.5 seconds. Teammate Krista Jones won the 1-meter diving competition with 402.30 points.

Dalton was on Greenwood’s runner-up 200 medley relay with Megan Poad, Amy Beers and Bailey Ippilito.
Greenwood was third with 330 points in the seven-team meet won by Franklin.
In the boys meet, also won by the Grizzly Bears, Greenwood was seventh with 128 points.
Boys basketball semis, finals at Southport
Southport Fieldhouse will host Marion County boys basketball tourney semifinals at 6 and 7:45 p.m. Friday and the championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Quarterfinal matchups, based on Tuesday’s opening-round winners, are today at four sites.
Southport is ranked No. 1 again this week in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association poll.
The Cardinals played at Decatur Central on Tuesday. If they won (results were unavailable at press time), they will host the Park Tudor-Beech Grove winner today. Perry Meridian, if victorious Tuesday against Warren Central, will play at home today.
