PictureBeech Grove libero Arial Keown, outside hitter Bri Mills and setter Hannah Horsley gained valuable experience last year.
Beech Grove (5-21) – Young Hornets gained experience, went 5-10 after losing first 11 matches … lost all-around Katie Giller (230 kills, 176 digs) and No. 3 in digs, and Riley Cooper to graduation … more together this season with second-year coach Lacee Hunter … five seniors are among nine returnees … Hornets to count on senior middle hitters Bre Small (team-high 185 blocks, 92 kills) and Tyonna Baxter (166 blocks), junior libero Arial Keown (179 digs) and junior setter Hannah Horsley (188 digs, 26 aces) … versatile soph Tia O’Connor takes Giller’s spot as outside hitter … junior Bri Mills and senior Alexiana Blakely backup the outside … seniors Emily Leak, Kayley Capps and Daysha Crouch add experience to back row with soph Alexa Peak adding depth … visit league foes Ritter Thursday and Scecina Tuesday.

Coach’s comments: “I expect the girls to be more successful this year because of the experience they gained gained last year. That means a lot because some of them have new positions to learn this season. We will need to work on our team chemistry. With their level of experience and five seniors, we are seeing an improvement in their confidence and that can do nothing but help us. We can put good experienced girls on the floor. We expect to improve in our conference (Indiana Crossroads). By the end of this season, hopefully they will find out how good they can be. Our numbers are up; we have varsity, a JV and a C team, and that can do nothing but help us in the future.”
