Beech Grove juniors Hannah Chandler, Romea Echols, Mya Crawford and Lexi Ham are the leaders for a young Hornets squad.
Beech Grove’s two seniors, 6-1 Alexiana Blakely, up from the junior varsity team, and Emily Johnson, recovered from a knee injury, are new to varsity competition this season. Coach’s comments: “We will miss last year’s seniors who took us a long way. This season will be a big new look for us: new girls and new roles. These girls know the foundation of our program, its values, its core. I’m not naïve; it’s going to take time. My goal is to develop their confidence, make sure they are on the same page, and build upon what we have accomplished. I am pleased with how hard they have worked and without complaining. We have a true post player (Blakely). We are making adjustments to our offense and our sets will be basic. We have returning players who were part of a fun season last year and that has helped our team chemistry.”
