Center Grove and Greenwood softball teams will meet at 10 a.m. Monday in a double-or-nothing game for the Johnson County championship and the right to advance in 4A Sectional 13 play on the Trojans’ field.
The sectional draw was made several days before the Woodmen (15-7) and the No. 3 Trojans (20-1) advanced Saturday to the county final, which was postponed due to rain. Without the fortuitous sectional draw, the county title game may have never been played due to each team’s late-season schedule. Greenwood pitcher Megan Overton threw a one-hitter against Edinburgh in an 8-0 win, and Center Grove defeated Whiteland 8-0 behind pitcher Abbey Pratt and a 12-hit attack Saturday before the skies opened. The second game will feature No. 11 Franklin Central battling Whiteland at noon. The winners collide May 26 at 5 p.m., with No. 8 New Palestine meeting Franklin at 7 p.m. Marion County champion and No. 14 Roncalli (19-6), which continues to jell, meets Lawrence North at 1 p.m. Monday in the Warren Central Sectional. Southport opens its 4A sectional Monday at noon against Ben Davis, with Perry Meridian going against Northwest at 2 p.m. The two winners meet in semifinal action May 27 at 5:30 p.m. Marion County tourney runner-up Decatur Central meets Pike at 7 p.m. Beech Grove meets the Tri-West/Indian Creek winner at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the 3A Tri-West Sectional. In 2A, Manual meets Crispus Attucks on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Triton Central. Lutheran opens its Class A Sectional against Eminence at 5 p.m. Monday. The winner advances to face Bethesda Christian on May 27 at 7 p.m. Greenwood Christian Academy faces Waldron Monday at 7 p.m., with the winner facing the Edinburgh-Southeastern winner Tuesday at 5 p.m. |
