He advanced to the regional title match by coming from behind and win 0-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Southwestern Hanover. Stanley is a junior and finished among the top 11 players in No.1 singles in the state, according to coach Lord.

Correspondent Center Grove and Franklin Central enjoyed quality days at last Saturday’s Regional cross country meet at the Blue River Park in Shelbyville. With the top five teams and top 15 runners without a qualifying team advancing to Saturday’s (Oct. 28) State Finals at the LaVern Gibson course in Terre Haute, the Trojans and Flashes fared well. Both teams qualified on the boys’ side, with Center Grove fourth and Franklin Central fifth. On the girls’ side, the Flashes took third with the Trojans sixth. Seniors Gavin Rockwell (15:45.7, 5:04.3 per mile) and Kyle Montgomery (15:46.6, 5:04.3) led the Trojans by finishing third and fourth, respectively. Sophomore Cameron Cox was 19th in 16:15.7 (5:14), junior Curtis Williams 53rd in 16:45.7, senior Rylan Mullins 58th in 16:49.8, senior Kaden McDermott 73rd in 17:02.2 and sophomore Michael Leavitt 80th in 17:09.5. For the Flashes, junior Evan Farmer finished fifth in 15:54.8 (5:07.3), with senior Joseph Ashman 13th in 16:09.2 (5:11.9), sophomore Justin Reedus 34th in 16:33.9 (5:19.9), freshman Ian Tharp 57th in 16:48.8 (5:24.7), sophomore Andrew Wright 59th in 16:51.7 (5:25.4), junior Emilio Leal 67th in 16:56.2 (5:27.1) and sophomore Isiah Tunis 84th in 17:16.3. Also qualifying for state was Greenwood senior Samuel Grimes, whose finish of 18th in 16:15.4 (5:13.9) was good. Perry Meridian senior James Haggerty finished 40th in 16:36.2 (5:20.6). Roncalli junior Sam Vaught was 44th in 16:41.7 (5:22.4) Flashy girls qualify The Franklin Central girls scored 115 points to take third and qualify for state in the girls’ 5K race. Senior Kylie Cline led the way by taking second in 18:07.9 (5:50.1). Junior Savana Miller was fifth in 18:28.6 (5:56.8), Dakota Miller 21st in 19:33.8, Kaitlyn Pettet 27th in 19:45.4, Ella DesJean 67th in 20:39.9, Camryn Simons 91st in 21:15.4, Evelyn Medina, 109th 21:31.6. Greenwood sophomore Lillian Rollings qualified by finishing 16th in 19:10.8 (6:10.4) as did Whiteland freshman Lena Shipp, 18th at 19:25 (6:14.9) and Roncalli freshman Tessa Mize, 23rd at 19:39.3 (6:19.5). Royals sophomore Ava Shirley was 33rd in 19:50.7. Center Grove teammates Marissa Pogue (19:55.3), Allison Cohen (19:55.9) and Gretchen Meisberger (19:57.5) finished 34th, 35th and 38th, respectively. Halie Mimbela was 47th in 20:13.7, Lexi O’Barr 53rd in 20:24. Whiteland junior Isabella Fuentes was 43rd in 20:01. |
