Sarah Lucille, affectionately known as G.G., Aunt Cil, Lucille, or Lucy, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on October 31, 2023, at the age of 102, just one week short of her 103rd birthday. She was born on November 7, 1920, to Clifford and Rosa VanSickle.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Orion L. Starks and Carrol Dennis; sons, Gary Lee and David Alan; sisters, Dorothy King, Bertha Baird, Katherine Marschke; and brothers, Frank VanSickle, Jay VanSickle, and Joe VanSickle.
Family was of utmost importance to her. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Pam Starks; grandchildren, Deanna Horen (Ryan), Donna Kelly (Jim), Curtis Starks; and great-grandchildren, Cameron (Olivia), Jessica, Brenna, Emily, Nathan, Zachary and Rylan.
She was a wonderful woman who loved her family more than anything. She will be remembered as a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, relative and friend to so many. She had a passion for writing, spending time in her garden, and cherished her time at the cabin in Brown County. She was also the original (Charter) Founder of New Hope of Indiana (Noble School) and held the distinction of being the oldest living alumni of Beech Grove High School, class of 1938. She had a long lifetime of experiences that only a book could contain and was an inspiration in so many ways. One motto she always wanted to live her life by was “Attitude and Gratitude”
Lucille loved the Lord and was a member of the Beech Grove Methodist Church since she was 16 years old.
Visitation was held on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023 followed by a Celebration of Life Service at Little & Sons Funeral Home – Beech Grove, 1301 Main St., Beech Grove, IN 46107. A Graveside Service was held on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Lois Lee (Davis) DeWester Hammond, 91, passed away peacefully at home in Greenwood, Indiana on October 30, 2023.  Lois was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Edith (Hartwell) Davis, her husband Gerald DeWester, her husband Robert Hammond, and her brother Robert Davis.  She is survived by her brothers Russell and James Davis and her 5 children Shelli (Russell) Wilson, Sheree Koester, Jeff (Cindy) DeWester, Linda Brown, and Jennifer (Nick) Pryor.  In addition, Lois is survived by 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.  Services will be held at Gray Road Baptist Church, 5500 Gray Road, Indianapolis. Visitation will be on Friday, November 10th, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Additional visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.  The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am followed by a graveside service. ​FLORENCE AUSBROOKS, 88, widow of Guthrie Ausbrooks; daughter, Sheila Ausbrooks Picray.
Florence was an Auxiliary member of the (FOP) Fraternal Order of Police for many years.  She was a gauge inspector for Indiana Gear, a volunteer for St. Francis Hospital and a private nurse for Mildred Laughner. She enjoyed planting flowers, cooking, shopping, watching basketball and traveling.

HARRIET CHEW BOYER, 95, widow of Carl Boyer; children, Carl Boyer III and Nancy Boyer Patterson (Pat); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
She grew up on a farm and was the youngest of six sisters and two brothers. Harriet graduated from Southport High School in 1948.
She loved Christmas, shopping, and spending time with her family.
Singleton and St. Pierre Funeral & Cremation Services were entrusted with services.

ELIZABETH “BETTY” WILLIAMS CAREY, 88, widow of  C. William “Bill” Carey; daughters, Ann Marie Carey and Elizabeth “Beth” Carey Franke; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; siblings, Rose Marie Perkins, James (Mary) Williams.
Betty was a graduate of Southport High School and attended Butler University. She was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ.
She enjoyed volunteering, bridge, bowling, tennis, golf. Betty was a fan of Purdue University and loved watching sports, especially basketball, football, tennis, and golf.
Visitation will be Sat., Nov. 11, 2023 from 1-2 p.m. at Friedens United Church of Christ and celebration of life at 2 p.m.

ROBERT C. CHAMPION, 83,  wife, Maria Champion; children, Tracy (Bill) Wilson and Robert (Gina) Champion Jr.; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He worked as a cabinet maker for General Fabricators for 30 years. Robert was a lifelong member of the Christian Baptist faith. He was a member of the American Legion. He was meticulous and organized, and amazing at assembling scaled ship models and puzzles. He enjoyed woodworking. Robert was a family-oriented man.

GENEVA NAPIER COMBS, 79, husband, Eugene Combs; sons, Jeffrey (Mindy) and Toddy  Combs (Jessie); siblings, Irene Sabia and Ronnie Napier; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
Geneva was a proud wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

BARBARA JANE CUMMINGS, 77, widow of Richard Cummings; James and Carrie Cummings, Corinne Leigh Paulson; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

LEA ANN CARTER DILLON, 67, husband, Matt Dillon; mother Amelia Carter; children, Kellie (Jaylin) Dillon Marion, Brian Dillon; three grandchildren; siblings, Rob (Belinda) Carter, Trudy (Dale) Miller, Christina Watson.
Lea graduated from Southport High School in 1974. She worked in underwriting for State Auto Insurance Co. for over 20 years, retiring in 2022.
Lea was a social butterfly, always enjoying a good get-together with her family and friends. She had a quick wit even on her last days with her family. She was always making everyone feel good with her presence. Her favorite thing was spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
Services entrusted to O’Riley Branson Funeral Service.

MATHIAS GREHN, 50, wife, Danielle; children, John, Elisabeth, Anna, and Boglarka (host daughter); mother, Birgitta; brothers, Marcus, Andreas (Sadete), and Jacob.
Mathias’ life was a testament to his deep passion for Jesus, his commitment to preaching hope, his love for his family, music, technology, and even his lawn. He made a significant impact by planting two churches in the Dominican Republic.
His commitment to hospitality and sharing his culture showed in his love for cooking Swedish meals for friends and family.  
A memorial will be Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at 6 p.m., with visitation at 3 p.m. at Grace Assembly of God.  Arrangements entrusted to G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home.

DONALD RAY LASITER, 93, wife, Mary Lasiter; daughters, Patricia Besser, Glenda Johnston and Diane (Bill) Anderson; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Harry (Vicky) Lasiter, Doris Rhoades.
Donald served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He retired from GM after 36 years. Don loved to travel and was an avid reader.

RUSSELL D. LYDY, 62, siblings, Martha (Jim) Minks, Judy Baum, Theresa Volis, Linda Mendel, Tish (Bard) Collier, Ron, Karen and Barbara Lydy.
Russell loved all sports and enjoyed watching Andy Griffith, Matlock and The Price Is Right. He loved all holidays with family.

BARBARA KYLE OBERTINE, 68, husband, Kenneth Oberting; children, Michelle, Kenny (Nicole) and Toni Oberting; sister, Eileen Yeakley (Tom); three grandchildren.
She worked at Franciscan St. Francis Health where she served as a birth recorder.
Her hobbies included quilting, reading and playing card games. She was a member of several quilt guilds. Kyle had many interests, but what she loved most was time spent with her family and friends.

DEBORAH R. PEMBERTON, 71, husband, Ronald Wright; children, Eric (Jenni) Grimmitt, Zoe (Dawson) Day; stepchildren, Courtney (Randy) and Cameron (Cheyenne) Wright; siblings, Mark (Christine), Jay, and Sandra Pemberton; six grandchildren.  
Debbe grew up in the Sacred Heart Neighborhood in the Old Southside. She studied cosmetology and mastered the art of sculptured nails. She had a great sense of humor and was a kid at heart. Have an ice-cold Coca-Cola and a White Castle in her honor and smile knowing she is with you in spirit making sure your fries are fresh.

NORETTA RINGEN, 86, widow of Joseph D. Ringen; children, Sally Thorne (Tim), Debra Fields (Joe), George and Joseph Ringen; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.    
Noretta worked at Mason & Dixon Truck Lines, then retired from Firestone Building Products.  
Her favorite pastime was eating out with anyone she could get to join her. And of course, she always had to pay.  
Noretta’s faith and love for the Lord was the core of her life. A member of Capital City Baptist Church, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to assist.

ANTHONY “TONY” M. WHITE, 36, daughter, Neveah; mother, Kim Eakle; brothers, Harold “Trey” Eakle III (Nikki) and Joseph “Joey” Eakle.
Tony was a devoted and proud father to his beautiful daughter. He was a gentle giant, with a heart as big as he was. Tony was a proud nerd about wrestling, music, cooking and movies. He loved his family and friends immensely. Tony was the memory keeper of the family and had an exceptional recollection of the past.
A celebration of Tony’s life will take place at a later date.

RUTH E. ALTHOFF, 91, widow of Paul Althoff; children, Susan (David) Campbell and Steven Althoff; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and Resurrection Lutheran Church. She was employed by State Farm Insurance for over 40 years as a secretary.
Ruth loved playing card games, especially Euchre and 500. She enjoyed traveling on bus tours with friends, BINGO and visiting casinos. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would pat, rock, and sing to all the babies.
Arrangements entrusted to Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home.

CLAUDIA BANKER, 67, husband, William Banker; children, Ginny (Anthony) Gillispie, Ruth (Nicholas) Brewer, Aaron (Heather), Seth (Evonda), and Luke Banker; five grandchildren; siblings, Darryl (Teri), David (Blaire), Doug (Betsy), and Chuck (Debbie) Dougherty, Laura (Dave) Lividini, Lisa (Ed) Wilde.
She graduated from Franklin Central High School in 1974. Claudia worked as a kindergarten aid for Perry Township and retired in 2020 after 20 years. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Claudia was always a woman of strong faith. She had a green thumb and enjoyed nurturing plants, friends and family every chance she could.

SARAH RUTH BENZ, 85, husband, Ron Benz; children, Tim (Ruth), and April Benz, Tara Benz-Moy (Edward); three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; six step-great-grandchildren.
She loved caring for the children by reading to them, playing games like Uno with them, and supporting their education.
Despite having tuberculosis in her sophomore year of high school, spending a year on bedrest, she graduated second in her class from Southport.
Sarah once said that “having a family was as rewarding as she thought, and she wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

CRAIG ALAN CAPPES, 65, daughters, Ashley (Brock Ackerman) and Brittany Capps; brothers, Jeff (Tammy), and Brian (Marry), and Kevin Capps (Lynda) Eric Roberts (Jackie); two grandchildren.
Craig graduated from Center Grove High School in 1976. He worked at Asphalt Patching Co. for decades before starting his own business, Capps Asphalt.
Craig was a phenomenal guitar player and doting family man, an excellent cook, avid news watcher, and Colts enthusiast. He had an incredible way of seeing the positive in life, had a hilarious sense of humor and contagious laugh.

VIRGINIA “GINGER” CHASTEEN, 81, widow of Robert Chasteen; children, Ann and Patrick (Summer) Chasteen; two grandchildren; sister, Mary Green.
She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1960 and attended Franklin College. Ginger worked as a teacher’s aide for Center Grove High School and retired after many years. She was a member of Our Lady of Greenwood Catholic Church for years, then attended St. Francis and Claire Catholic Church.
Ginger enjoyed staying active with Center Grove marching band and attending her monthly bridge club meetings.

HUGH ANN CONLEY, 77, widow of Jack Conley; children, Jackie (Dwayne) Hicks, Kevin (Kathleen) Conley; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, Robbie Cooper.
Hugh Ann worked as a saleswoman for General Furniture and Bedding and retired after more than 30 years. She enjoyed playing BINGO at the Concord Center and the Salvation Army. She was a master of southern cooking and enjoyed spending time with family as often as possible. Her feisty personality will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be Wed., Nov. 1, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 12-2 p.m. with funeral at 2 p.m.

JOHN LEO DWENGER, 90, wife, Lou Anne Dwenger; sons, John (Carol) and Dick (Jackie) Dwenger; four granddaughters.
John earned his bachelor’s degree at Hanover College where he earned 11 varsity awards in football, basketball and baseball. He served in the U.S. Army. John then attended Butler University. John began his teaching career at Sacred Heart High School.
John had a passion for sports. He spent 30-plus years at Southport High School where he continued his love of sports. John loved to golf, travel, play cards and spend time with his granddaughters.
O’Riley Branson Funeral Service handled arrangements.

​FERN FOWLER, 100, widow of Ronald Fowler; daughters, Ann Kraft Sullivan (Larry), Rita Towe (Jerry); four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; life-long friend, Anna Landreth Howell, best friends for 87 years.
She was a member of Edgewood United Methodist Church, the Tuesday Club, and Circle of Faith. Fern was a voracious reader. She created many needlepoint projects. She enjoyed meeting people and hearing about their lives and telling them about hers. She was married for 75 years. If you weren’t married, she would try to find someone for you.

VLADEMER STEVE RUSOMAROFF, 62, sons, Michael and Nathan; stepdaughter, Michaela Everton (Towles); father, Steve (Terry) Rusomaroff; siblings, Maria (Clyde), and Christopher Rusomaroff, Steven (Amy) Park, Angie (Bill) Hinton; dear friend, Dean Lane.
His workplaces included Indianapolis Star/News, Coca-Cola Company, and KYB corporation.
He enjoyed bowling above all, bowling on the National semi-pro circuit, in the early 90s. He was an expert bowler, who participated in the 1990 U.S. Open. He loved wheeling and dealing with merchandise and turning one man’s trash into another’s treasures!
Visitation took place at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home.

MICHAEL J. SCHLOEGL SR., 82, wife, Diane Schloegl; children, Michele (Mike) Etter, Valerie (Pete) Fleming, Reka (John) Wrynn, Martin (Sisca), Joe (Candy), and Michael (Craig) Schloegl Jr.; siblings, Marion, Donna; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.  
He was a computer programmer and founded his own business, MYIP, helping companies with computer programming needs. He was a parishioner of St. Roch Catholic Church for 54 years, where he enjoyed being the head usher for many years.
Mike enjoyed carpentry, was a good dancer and worked hard to provide his children with a good Catholic Education.

SCOTT L. SWIFT, former wife, Michelle Adams Swift; son, Calvin Swift; siblings, Stacy (Dennis) White, Jack (Valerie) Swift, Jr.,
Scott graduated from Beech Grove High School. He had a long career as a firefighter with Rolls-Royce Corporation and was later employed by the City of Southport. Scott and his son together enjoyed every aspect of the outdoors – camping, fishing, hunting, and time around the backyard fire pit.
