Leonard V. “Sonny” Shaffer, 76, of Stuart Fla., passed away at his home Jan. 18 while surrounded by family and friends. 

Born Dec. 6, 1940, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Homer and Ruby (Huddleston) Shaffer, both of whom predeceased him.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and of Christian faith. Sonny was a self-employed entrepreneur. Before relocating to Florida, he owned Shaffer’s Lawn and Garden on the Southside of Indianapolis. In Florida he started Shaffer and Son Trucking Co. and worked as a plant broker. Most recently he was a foreman for an estate.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Barbara E. (Haas) Shaffer, and his brother, Robin Shaffer. He is survived and will be missed by his companion, Hannelore Smith of Stuart; son, Jeffrey A. Shaffer (Larrisa) of Jupiter; daughter, Elizabeth E. Grader (Christopher) of Cincinnati; sister Donna Ruesch (Tom) of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pastor Chip Jurskis officiated a funeral service Jan. 23 at the Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Funeral Home in Lake Worth. Entombment followed at Lake Worth Memory Gardens.

Richard William “Bill” Rowley, 66, passed away Jan. 14, 2017. He was born Dec. 26, 1950, in Indianapolis to Raymond and Pattiann Jeffers Rowley, both of whom preceded him in death.
On Nov. 20, 1980, Bill married Susan L. Dashell Rowley. 

He was a graduate of Ball State University and earned his master’s degree from Indiana University. Bill was employed by Perry Township Schools, teaching social studies and health and physical education and coaching baseball and football. He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Bill is survived by his wife, Susan L. Rowley; children, Ryan (Kristen) Rowley, Kristen (Troy) Wymer and Kyle Rowley; half-brother, Denton (Susan) Rowley; and grandchildren, Ben Wymer, McKenna Kevlin, Eli Kevlin and McKenzie Garvey. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mark, 535 E. Edgewood Ave., where visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Memorial gifts have been suggested to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial is handling the arrangements.
