The Southsider Voice-sponsored September cruise-in demonstrated that summer is still alive with car enthusiasts. Over 75 classic, restored, customized cars and hot-rods, including a great array of Ford Mustangs, were displayed free-of-charge on a fantastic early September evening.

In its sixth season, the popular cruise-ins are held on the first Friday of each month from May through October beginning at 6 p.m. There's no entry-fee for car buffs to show off their cars, trucks and motorcycles. Visitors are welcome to tour the parking lot and admire the vehicles.

The event that attracts enthusiasts is organized and hosted by The Southsider Voice’s publisher and owner, Kelly Sawyers, in Beck Service Center’s parking lot, at the southeast corner of Madison and Edgewood avenues.

Each cruise-in features a festive atmosphere complete with live music played by DJ Paul Rippy, who helps promote the event.

Kelly Sawyers offers free food and water, which this month’s menu included Chicka-Boom chicken, pasta salad and fruit salad.

The last cruise-in of the season is set for Friday, Oct. 4.
