A RECORD TURNOUT FOR AUGUST CRUISE-IN

By Brett Hickman

Warm, sunny skies made the August edition of The Southsider Voice newspaper-sponsored Cruise-In a spectacular evening for a large gathering of Southside Indy gearheads and aficionados. Over 145 vintage, restored and custom cars and hot rods were proudly on display for the more than 300 in attendance. As always, the evening began with free food, which was BBQ pulled-pork sandwiches, green beans, chips and water.

Additionally, it was also a special celebration to honor Bob Keeney’s 80th birthday. So afterwards a birthday cake was presented and served to all. As with every Cruise-In, classic cruise-themed music made for a festive atmosphere thanks to Paul Rippy.

Now in its sixth season, this Cruise-In set a new participation record, with well over 145 automobiles. Thanks to all sponsors that contribute in various ways and make each event so much fun. Especially Beck Service Center who graciously provides a spacious parking lot for the monthly setting of classic cars and hot rods.

And special thanks to all car owners who brought their beautiful rides which filled the parking lot. And of course, thanks to all those who came to just hang out and admire all the rods.  The next Cruise-In will be on Friday, Sept. 6 beginning at 6 p.m. Be sure to mark your calendar and plan to attend.
