Valerie Rockey, who graduated from Franklin Central High School in 2012, is among the six finalists who will perform today at 8 p.m. on WXIN 59’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”
She is the daughter of John and Debbie Rockey, and her parents traveled to Los Angeles for the first live performance of the show to see their daughter compete. Mr. Rockey teaches math and is the head basketball and baseball coach at Franklin Central.
Valerie lives in Los Angeles, where she auditioned for the show. She has danced since she was 3 years old and is a product of Tippy Toes School of Dance. She is trained in jazz, tap and ballet.
Nigel Lythgoe, the show’s executive producer and a dance judge, said her recent samba with partner Ryan DiLello was “brilliant” and vivacious.”
The show airs for two hours. Viewers have the opportunity to vote for their favorite dancers to advance to the next round.
