Beautifying Garfield Park

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and Friends of Garfield Park hosted a tree planting program Saturday at the park, where nearly 240 volunteers, including the University of Indianapolis football team and coach Bob Bartolomeo, planted 175 trees.

Before manning their pick axes, shovels and wheelbarrows on a chilly morning, the volunteers were treated to donuts from Kroger, coffee from Dunkin Donuts and trowels from the Rotary Club of Indianapolis.

The event is one of nearly 40 that KIB participates in annually, the result being nearly 2,500 trees planted.

UIndy football players (from left) Spencer Roise, Luke Rowell, Jordan Bedan, Joe Zumpano and Bre’don Nickoson had never planted a tree, but they were more than willing to give it a shot.
