The Homecoming theme is “Oh the places Cards will go,” a takeoff on a Dr. Seuss theme.
The annual parade features the Southport Cardinals football team that is undefeated in their first three games for the first time since 2014. Southport plays Gibson Southern at 2:30 p.m., Saturday.
The parade route goes east on Banta Road, then south on Madison Frontage Road, then west on Southview Drive and north on Shelby Street to the south entrance of the school’s east parking lot.
Admission to the community-fest is $3 for students and $5 for adults. Admission to the game Saturday is $6 per person.
Channel 4 morning anchor Frank Mickens serves as the parade’s grand marshal. He came to Channel 4 from North Carolina. He has been active in the area by feeding hungry families and providing backpacks and school supplies to children. He also works with the YMCA where he teaches African-American youths to swim.
He lives in central Indiana with his wife and three children.
The parade is presented by the Southport Student Booster Club.
