Perry Schools had the more contested vote. The $3 million annual fee for additional transportation and building maintenance costs passed with just 53 percent of the vote.
A $50 million building fee that featured the replacement of trailers with classrooms passed with 55 percent of the vote. Well over 7,000 votes were cast in the Perry Township referendum.
Turnout was smaller in Beech Grove as both referendums passed easily. A “tax neutral” transportation referendum to continue the current property tax rate of $0.35 per $100 assessed valuation for seven more years passed with 77 percent of the vote. An $8.8 million fee that featured heating, venting and air-conditioning improvements at four schools passed with 76 percent of the vote.
At the time of posting, in Perry Township 50 of 55 precincts had reported. For Beech Grove six of its nine.
