Designed for toddlers to senior citizens, the day of wellness will feature a kiddy romp, a 1-mile run, 5- and 10K runs, a health fair from 7:30-11:30 a.m. and a variety of informational booths. The longer runs start at 9 a.m., with the 1-mile run and kiddy romp starting at 10:30 and 11 a.m., respectively.
The event is named in honor of the late Tom Hathaway, who ran 131 marathons, many half-marathons and countless other races.
At 79 he was the oldest finisher at the inaugural event. He accomplished the feat of running one marathon in each state – gaining him entry into the 50 States Marathon Club.
Hathaway taught and coached cross country and track at Perry Township Schools for 44 years, most of that time at Southport High. He also coached at the University of Indianapolis and offered instruction to runners in Ken Long & Associates’ training programs.
