Magnant, who turned 100 Jan. 15, is a resident of Rosegate. She and her sister, Mary Richards, talk weekly on the phone but haven’t seen each other in more than five years.
When they were younger and married, they frequently traveled hundreds of miles to visit each other. After their husbands passed away they continued to travel to each other’s homes.
As they got older it became more difficult for them to make the drive, and then Richards moved to Fort Worth, Texas to be closer to her daughter.
Magnant and her late husband volunteered throughout their 52-year marriage at Franciscan St. Francis Health and St. Jude Catholic Church. She keeps busy by making rosaries for her church, playing Words with Friends on her tablet and reading the newspaper daily.
Magnant is traveling with daughters Paula Roessler, a Southsider, and Marilyn McKibbem, who was flown in from York, Penn. The trio will be whisked to Indianapolis International Airport via limousine, and they will return Thursday.
American Senior Communities has seven Southside locations, including Beech Grove Meadows, Rosegate, Bethany Village, Greenwood Meadows, Meadow Lakes, Forest Creek Village and Franklin Meadows.
