Rain did not keep the Perry Cultural Festival from taking place Saturday. Performances from diverse groups on the Southside took place in the dry confines of the Baxter YMCA while eight soccer teams braved the elements outside.
“Rain or shine they will play,” soccer tournament organizer Peter Thawnghmumg said.
Eight teams participated in the tournament with seven coming from local Burmese churches. A group of international students from the University of Indianapolis also fielded a team.
“Obviously an event everyone looks forward to,” Thawnghmung said. “Great community event for us.”
The festival featured a kids zone and booths for sponsoring businesses to interact with participants, including the Indy Eleven soccer team with players Neil Shaffer and Daniel Keller signing autographs.
Performances included the I Life Music Band, Chin Community Dance Group and Chikiszumba Fitness.
