The Clarence Cook chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution has awarded its Law Enforcement Medal to Southport Police Chief Thomas Vaughn.
Presented Nov. 15 during the organization’s meeting, the citation accompanying the award cited in part: “Chief Vaughn has served the city of Southport with distinction. During his service his contributions to the public safety of the citizens of Indianapolis are well documented through numerous commendations, citations and letters of recognition. ...
“Recently with the loss of Lt. Aaron Allan, Chief Vaughn exemplified true leadership in the midst of great chaos and was a solid example in the midst of a media storm of what servant leadership is.”
The agency posthumously presented Allan with its Distinguished Service Medal. His wife, Stacy, his two sons and father Jim accepted the award.
