Perry Kiwanis recently donated a Little Free Library to Baxter YMCA for its front lobby. On hand for the unveiling was its first customer, young Amelia Whittaker, who was helped by Kiwanis member and Baxter advisory board member Kevin Wheeler. Also on hand with Wheeler, below, was Baxter executive director John Schwentker. The project came together with the assistance of club director Tom Jackson who purchased the box along with some starter books and fellow Kiwanis member and Baxter sports director Ethan New. The box carries the Kiwanis logo. Perry Kiwanis also presented a $2,500 donation to Baxter for its annual capital campaign. The club also supports other community organizations including Hunger Inc., Perry Senior Services and Riley Hospital for Children, and it recently awarded scholarships to high school seniors. Support for these programs is obtained through a concession stand operated during Baxter’s fall and spring youth athletic league games and which is now open, a golf outing held in June, and a chili cook-off planned for Oct. 28.
