McCammon’s Irish Market has been named the Best Garden Center in Greater Indianapolis by voters casting ballots for the Indy A-List.
Winning such an award is nothing new for owner Garry Ward, who garnered similar recognition in 1999, 2000 and 2001 for his garden shop in Cincinnati.
Ward, 61, opened his first garden center and vegetable stand at the corner of Cold Spring and Lafayette roads on the Northside when he was 19.
This is the third year that he and his wife, Mary Jane, a chemotherapy nurse at the Roudebush Veterans Affairs Medical Center, have operated McCammon’s at the corner of State Road 135 and Fry Road in Greenwood. The business is named in honor of Garry’s grandparents.
“We are dedicated to providing the highest quality of plants and gardening supplies, and we carry all of your bird seed needs,” Garry said.
The center is stocked with 800 trees, 4,000 container shrubs, 2,000 flats of annuals and perennials, 1,100 hanging baskets, tropical plants and pottery products. “If you can’t find it here, you aren’t going to find it anywhere,” he said. “All of our annuals and perennials will be marked down by a third through July Fourth.”
Now open year-round, the shop (885-8707) will carry fall ornamental plants, pumpkins, Christmas trees and wreaths.
Garry is also a seasoned landscaper who has the knowledge to create and maintain beautiful yards.
