Friday’s inaugural Light Up the Night in Greenwood provided an evening of fun while raising money for the Fraternal Order of Police.

Coordinated by Greenwood High School students Olivia Oschsner, Maddie Bright, Chloe Mattison and Shelby Buster and teacher Meghan Flanaga, the event featured a walk that began and ended at the Greenwood Police Department, a silent auction and a block party where children could play games, exercise and have their faces painted.

“For their service-learning class they had to come up with something for the spring,” Flanagan said. “All the money, all the proceeds are going to the FOP fund for injured officers.”

Despite fears of poor weather, the rains stayed away. “We were a little scared with the rain the last couple of days,” Flanagan said. “We had 300 people to preregister. We are going to do this every year as long as we are allowed to.”

Ella’s Frozen Yogurt and City Barbecue donated food, and other contributions were made for the auction.
