Davis, daughter of Linda Boothe, has been participating in Special Olympics for more than seven years. She swims, bowls and plays basketball, golf, softball and volleyball and is a four-year member of the Athlete Leadership Programs. She plans on participating in Saturday’s Polar Plunge at Eagle Creek Park.
In addition to being a fine athlete, Davis is a good sport and a role model for everyone. Sporting a constant smile, she is always encouraging others and cheering them on at sporting events, said Ruthie Whyde of Special Olympics Johnson County.
“Chelsea is the type of athlete who befriends everyone, Whyde said. “She is a huge help to her coaches, getting athletes ready and excited at practices and games. She is sensitive to the players’ needs, assuring no one is left out. If she sees someone on the sidelines, she gets them to participate, regardless of their age.”
An active volunteer in the Special Olympics program, Davis helps to plan and promote fundraisers and is a tireless worker during events. She also volunteers at Riley Hospital for Children, Greenwood Library and her church.
