Looking for a family-friendly place to play pool, air hockey, foosball, basketball, life-size Connect 4, pingpong, darts or arcade games? Then Time 2 Play Gameroom is the place to go.

Located at 3137 E. Thompson Road, the newly opened center is operated by Richard and Angelia Bartlett, who say they are proud to offer the Southside a first-class game room that will offer shuffleboard and bumper pool in the near future.

“We are great hosts,” said Mr. Bartlett, “and our reviews have been good. We had a couple in their 80s who enjoyed reliving their youth. They had a great time.”

But Bartlett was quick to note that the center offers more than just fun. “We provide instruction and we emphasize sportsmanship. If I see some kids getting ready to act out, I’ll get their attention and then walk over to let them know that we don’t tolerate that kind of behavior.

“We have rules to follow (saying please and thank you are of paramount importance); most of the kids are really good, but I’m not afraid to ask unruly ones to leave.”

Although most of the center’s customers are between 10 and 40 years old, that hasn’t kept the Bartletts from opening a Toddler Town, where the wee ones can play.

The Bartletts, both graduates of Southport High School, are assisted in the endeavor by their daughter, Samantha, a sophomore at Southport. She helps out when not busy with homework or working at the McDonald’s at U.S. 31 and Stop 11 Road.

Mr. Bartlett, who manages a Jiffy Lube, operated a game center in Greenfield in 2010, said he’s optimistic that Time 2 Play Gameroom will thrive once the word gets out.

“Business is picking up, and we saw a lot of new faces over the weekend,” said Mrs. Bartlett, a server at Cheddars when not manning the center.

“We love to see new customers,” Mr. Bartlett said, “but we love repeat customers even more.”

General admission is $10, which includes unlimited play. Five- to 9-year-olds will be charged $1 per year of age; there is no fee for ages 4 and under. People who need to leave will be readmitted for $1 that same day when contacting one of the owners. Open daily at 11 a.m., the center is open until 10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 p.m. Friday, midnight Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday. Snacks, soft drinks and party rooms are available. Info: 317-430-0198.

The center will soon take on a psychedelic aura as the walls will be painted to mirror the colors seen in a gum ball machine.

For customers who want to help personalize the center, they can pay $15 to paint a ceiling tile.
“It’s going to be pretty neat,” said Mr. Bartlett.
