The game is a variant of dodgeball, and players are eliminated as they are hit on or below the knees. Rules, ball types and pit surfaces and sizes can vary.
Seen in front of the pit are (top, from left) Christel House Academy Secondary Principal Colin Butler, Godbey and his sister, Madeline.
At the bottom left, Godbey goes over his blueprints with his father. It was a family affair for the Godbeys as little brother Evan (right) also lent a helping hand. Scoutmaster Eric Boes and about 12 members of the troop also helped to complete the project.
Reid chose to build the pit at the academy because he is friends with Bobbie Bosch, the school’s director of development.
