The Franklin Township Historical Society (FTHS) will hold its major fundraising activity later this month. Open to the public, annual harvest luncheon and silent auction unfolds Sept. 28 at 1 p.m., at Grace Church, 5605 S. Franklin Road. Proceeds support the FTHS.FTHS is seeking silent auction donations from businesses, organizations, and individuals. All donors will be acknowledged publicly and at the event itself.
FTHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization.

The luncheon is catered by A la Arlette. The event also features live music and a review of Franklin Township history. Reservations, $15 each, must be made by Sept. 21. Payment can be made online at FTHS.org or check mailed to the Franklin Township Historical Society, P.O Box 39015, Indianapolis, IN 46239.Other fundraisers are held throughout the year, but the harvest luncheon and silent auction brings FTHS members and the public together for a celebration. Funds are utilized for the historical society’s 148-year meeting house/museum, the former Big Run Baptist Church, at 6510 S. Franklin Road, open to the
public on the first Saturday and third Sunday of each month through October, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Visitors may examine items from earlier eras, re-search family history, and attend special events. The society also has provided countless presentations to township school classes. The meeting house/museum has new outdoor signage and the window restoration project has been completed with all eight of the windows removed, repaired and reinstalled.

The historical society has many public events throughout the year including its quilt show, bring-an-item antiques showcase, authors’ fair, ghost stories at the meeting house and an old-fashioned Christmas celebration. Additional details about the luncheon and auction can be found at www.FTHS.org, or email FranklinTownshipHistory@gmail.com.
