Honored were Drs. Robert Kopecky and the late John Deever, partners in a Southside medical practice who delivered more than 10,000 babies at St. Francis Hospital over a 24-year span, and William Van Deman, former vice president of Greenwood National Bank and investment counselor of Traub & Co.
Kopecky and Van Deman, who contributed their services to UIndy students and faculty for more than 20 years, were recognized by Gov. Mike Pence for their service with Sagamores of the Wabash. Deever was represented by his daughter, Karen Deever Melick of Homecroft, and her husband, Phil.
Kopecky most recently served as chief medical officer at St. Francis. Van Deman has served as chairman of the board of the Franklin United Methodist Community and was one of the founding members of Rosedale Hills United Methodist Church.
In conjunction with the awards program, an unidentified couple donated $250,000 to the Franciscan St. Francis Foundation in honor of the doctors and $250,000 to the Franklin United Methodist Community in honor of Van Deman.
